FUTURE

FUTURE

Definition:

The future is the indefinite time yet to come. It is something that will happen in time to come. Further, it can be seen as a prospective or expected condition, especially one considered with regard to growth, advancement, or development.

Brief Explanation:

Often to move into a future and a hope requires dealing with the past. Grieving losses, resolving conflict, forgiving, etc., are often the weights that beset us, or hold us back from our future destiny.

To look to the future, a time when life is problem free is a fantasy we cannot afford to buy into. However, a future with purpose and meaning is quite possible for the most difficult of cases, for we are blessed in Christ and have hope in him. Coming along side a client, speaking future into them in keeping with their gifts and abilities is something a counselor can do by God’s grace.

The Word of God:

Proverbs 3:1, 2

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.”

1 John 2:17

“The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.”

Proverbs 16:9

“The  mind  of  man  plans  his  way,  but  the  Lord  directs  his steps.”

Proverbs 16:3

“Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.”

Mark 9:23

And Jesus said to him, “If you can? All things are possible to him who believes.”

Proverbs 15:22

“Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many counselors they succeed.”

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

John 14:2, 3

“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.  If I go and prepare a place for you, I  will  come  again  and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”
