From the Desk of Dr. Stan
When I first heard all of the hullabaloo regarding the recent birth of Prince George…well, I was not really that impressed. The whole idea of a monarchy, which we threw off over 230 years ago, seems at best a terrible expense for a nation to bear. I mean really, babies are born every day; why is this one more special than any other. But then again…
Aren’t we all special in the eyes of the Lord? We are fearfully and wonderfully made, the apple of His eye, created in His image, etc. On more reflection, I do see some significance to a young man being born a prince. The fact is, there will never be a day in his life when he will not be called a prince, be treated as a prince, paid homage to as a prince (the later may not be in his best interest), and he will be trained in the responsibilities of being a prince. Thus, he will always know that he is truly royalty…no self-esteem problem with Prince George I would suspect. Then I thought, what if we, the people of God, could see ourselves in a similar light…as royalty (which we are in Christ), as above not beneath (which we are) as seated on the seat of royalty (which, of course, we are in Christ) and live as though every accolade spoken about our princely reality were indeed true…how might we act?
Well, I for one think it would be smashing…to use a bit of Britishism…as we grow into our maturity, taking princely responsibilities, standing in absolute confidence that the entire throne in heaven stands behind us (which, again, of course, it does).
Well, from my view, no one has written more or better on the subject of our royal position in Christ than our dear friend and colleague Dr. Ken Chant. In several books he reminds us of who we really are in Christ, and urges the reader to rise to the level of who we already are in Christ because of all Christ has done for us in his life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension and enthronement. Probably my favorite is the book we are featuring this month, and I would urge you to get a copy of it if you don’t already have one, Royal Priesthood. In my estimation, if a person really knows how free they are because of the marvelous grace of God, if they are parented to know who they are in Christ (discipleship) as his sons and daughters, ambassadors, fellow heirs, royal priests…there is nothing that God has purposed for her or him which cannot be done, for God’s glory and the world’s blessing. As you read through our Update, I trust you will be blessed with the articles we have provided, and please keep us in prayer as we continue to take the Whole Word to the Whole World.
