Dr. Potter received his Doctoral Degree in Philosophy, with
an emphasis in psychological studies, from Vision Christian University in 1990,
upgraded in August, 1995 to include an emphasis in Christian Counseling. Dr.
Potter attended the University of the Nations in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, with his
wife, Paula, majoring in Christian Counseling, and has completed postdoctoral
studies in Marriage and Family Therapy and Addiction Rehabilitation Therapy.
Dr. James Potter, and his wife Paula, are both Licensed and
Ordained pastors and Licensed Pastoral-Counselors. Dr. Potter is a a Certified
Doctoral Addictions Counselor and Domestic Violence Counselor, a Board Certified
Christian Clinical Therapist: Diplomat, a Licensed Clinical Pastoral counselor,
a Professional Family Counselor: Diplomat; Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist:
Fellow; and Temperament Therapist. He serves as the California Diplomat for the
National Association of Forensic Counselors and the American Board of Addiction
Counselors
Dr. Potter has served in the office of pastor and evangelist
within local churches and has conducted seminars and workshops in Prayer,
Couple Communication & Conflict Resolution, Anger Management & The Prevention of
Family Violence, Successful Parenting, Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment,
and Spiritual Growth throughout the Hawaiian Islands and several western
mainland states.
Dr. Potter is President of Agape Family Services, Inc. in
California; President of Special People Hawaii, an Employee Assistance Program
consulting firm in Hawaii; and Past-president of Victory Family Care Centers, a
multidisciplinary counseling ministry in Hawaii. He served on the Board of
Family Care Services International, and as a faculty member of Vision Christian
University. He served on the Advisory Board of the American Association of
Family Counselors, American Institute of Counseling, is past president of the
International Christian Counselor's Association and past International Director
of the National Christian Counselor's Association. Dr. Potter served as a
Gubernatorial appointed member of the Hawaii Area Service Board on Mental Health
and Substance Abuse from 1991 through 1994, and Coordinator for the Hawaii
Chapter of CAPS [Christian Association for Psychological Studies] in 1994 and
1995.
Dr. Potter is included in, Who's Who in Religion, Fourth
Edition, The Marquis Who's Who's Publications, Board, and was the recipient of
the American Biographical Institute "Man of the Year" award in 1993, and the
International Biographical Centre's "Men of Achievement" award that same year.
Prior to entering the counseling profession, Dr. Potter received the
"Professional Journalism" award from the American Congress on Surveying and
Mapping in 1976, served as First Chairman of the Western Federation of
Professional Land Surveyors, and President of the Idaho Association of Land
Surveyors. He was twice his party's nominee for State Representative, and served
on various professional committees and boards for the past twenty-five years.
