Dear Friend of Vision
“Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, yes. And He said to them, Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a household, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.” (Mt. 13:51-52)
The primary message of Christ was on the Kingdom of God. His teaching on the Kingdom was not direct or didactic, rather than the Kingdom is, he taught the Kingdom is like…using stories that illustrated his points. Most likely, Jesus shared these stories multiple times, and in multiple ways, and his disciples had the privilege of hearing them over, and over, and over…perhaps ad nauseam. However many times he taught them previously, this time was different. This time, he was giving them the test, and also presenting what should be expected of them if they truly grasped his concepts.
His question is simple; do you get it? There answer, whether since or from fear was a simple but profound yes! Jesus Therefore speaks to a profound truth. If you really understand the word, there is a responsibility that goes with it; you must be like a scribe of the Kingdom.
A scribe reproduced what the Master teacher taught; and he or she did so with the authority of the Master, and in the style of the Master. In other words, the Master’s goal was to reproduce in the student the insights and revelation of the Master teacher to such an extent that the student sounded like the Master, taught like the Master, wrote like the Master…which is our goal as well as we teach our students and minister in our congregations…teach so they get it and do it.
