Dear Friend of Vision
“And the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance. “ (Lu. 8:15)
It is a fact, you never know how many fruit are in a seed…or how fruitful a student or congregant might become from all our effort to plant the Word of God into them. Yet, we know that we must plant if we’re ever going to reap a harvest, and Jesus knew this better than anyone, as he put the whole Kingdom outcome into the hands of some pretty rough characters, trusting the Holy Spirit to finish bringing the fruit in their lives to maturity.
When I think of my own life, which I probably do too often, I am grateful for pastors and other leaders that sowed seed into me. I assume the soil (my heart) has sufficient good soil to receive3 the word, but honestly, how many of us can say we have a truly good heart. Outside of God’s grace, I am sure my natural inclination would have been to eat the seed sown…or worse, but God is good, and through perseverance, and friends who held me accountable, and perhaps the luck of the Irish, there has been some fruit in my life…and yours, and there will be in the lives of the students your work with…by his grace…so keep sowing with expectation.
