Dear Friend of Vision
“Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine– where are they? Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner? And He said to him, Stand up and go; your faith has made you well.” (Lu. 17:17-19)
This parable, like so many of Jesus’s stories can be interpreted in different ways, with different emphasis. I suppose one could sense the credulity with which Jesus states the “foreigner’…that is, maybe this was a slight to the ungrateful Jews of the day. Perhaps the focus should be on returning to give Glory…perhaps their lack of response to the miracle of cleansing indicated their self-centeredness, and in the long run, perhaps the dreaded disease returned to the 9. In fact, we only know that one returned, falling at Jesus feet to worship, who receive the word that his own faith had made him well. His response to Christ was the noble one, and unexpected considering his ethnic differences.
I certainly am blessed when someone acknowledges that a message I have preached or sermon delivered, or even a blog written has blessed someone. For the vast majority of people that I have encountered have received from me what I delivered (which might not have been much, but usually my best) with no acknowledgement of the time, talent or treasure I had put into the word. But again, it is great when someone says thanks, as it gives us an opportunity to say thanks in return, and to thank the Lord for the privilege of being the King’s kid…and Ps. It usually is someone that is not that familiar with your gift that provides the best acknowledgment…do don’t worry about it…Jesus only got a tithe on his ministry, how much can we expect?
