Dear Friend of Vision,
“Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. (Jn. 13:1)
People are not always easy to love. I know this, because I am people too.
We all have moods, quirks, and often rub each other the wrong way…and certainly leaders and followers can get on each other’s last nerve. Thus, from my view, this simple statement by John regarding Jesus and his heart towards his disciples is astounding. Remember, we are talking about impetuous Peter, Judas the betrayer, etc.…only too human men whom Jesus had poured his life into, and who in the end all ran away for safety. Yet Jesus loved them, even to the end…. just like he loves us, not giving up on us when times are tough or when we are less than Christian. He loves us, and we need, no, have the privilege of loving each other like Jesus does…which takes lots of grace and a heavenly perspective.
