{"id":545,"date":"2017-05-17T09:00:55","date_gmt":"2017-05-17T09:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vision.edu\/iaccp\/?p=545"},"modified":"2017-05-16T18:12:10","modified_gmt":"2017-05-16T18:12:10","slug":"conceit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vision.edu\/iaccp\/conceit\/","title":{"rendered":"CONCEIT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Definition:<\/h4>\n<h4>Conceit is a favorable and especially unduly high opinion of one&#8217;s own abilities or worth; thinking more of oneself than deserved.<\/h4>\n<h4>Brief Explanation:<\/h4>\n<h4>I heard someone say \u201cconceit is a fault, and I have none.\u201d Well, that is probably beyond conceit, and into the land of delusion.\u00a0 Conceit is akin to denial, that is, it is a braggadocios attitude that states \u201cI am better than others, or my problems are less than others.\u201d In fact, there is always someone better, smarter, faster, better looking than us, if only in the eye of the beholder. Thus, conceit is a wrong self-appraisal, and indicated insecurity to the highest degree.<\/h4>\n<h4>When faced with a person filled with themselves, it is difficult to help them until they are willing to see themselves in light of the word of God. Helping a person accept both strengths and weakness, and our common need for God\u2019s grace is a gift, but one that a truly narcissistic, conceited person is not likely to benefit from.<\/h4>\n<h4>The Word of God:<\/h4>\n<h4>Proverbs 16:18, 19<\/h4>\n<h4>\u201cPride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.
