Brief Explanation:<\/p>\n
In counseling, it is helpful to establish goals for the purpose for the counseling process. I often ask a counselee; \u201cHow long do you think the counseling will take and what do you expect to get from it.\u201d Some respond realistically, some not, generally a reflection of their way of seeing the world. Some have expectations that are realistic (to help me cope, to learn more, to grow up) some are not (to completely alter my personality, to make everyone like me, to find a husband\/wife, etc.). Setting or establishing goals that are definable, measurable,\u00a0 and\u00a0 obtainable\u00a0 within\u00a0 a\u00a0 reasonable\u00a0 time frame is an effective counseling strategy.<\/p>\n
