LONELINESS<\/h4>\n

Definition:<\/h4>\n

Loneliness is to be without companions; alone. It is characterized by loneliness or being solitary.\u00a0 It is being unfrequented by people; it can also mean desolate: a lonely crossroads <\/em>or dejected by the awareness of being alone.<\/h4>\n

Brief Explanation:<\/h4>\n

\u00a0Loneliness is endemic in Western culture. Men are looking for women, women for men. Even in the midst of a church, lonely people commiserate their loneliness.<\/h4>\n

Being lonely is not always a matter of how many people you relate to. It is often a state of mind, of feeling unloved and insignificant in the midst of people. This is by far the deeper issue, the one often addressed in counseling. Most lonely people feel unwanted for some reason, and must learn to accept themselves and God\u2019s appraisal of them. Dr. Chant in his outstanding book Dazzling Secrets for Despondent Saints addresses this condition, urging men of faith to first find their significance in God. We are a New Creation\u00a0\u00a0 in Christ, loved by God, significant in him, and important in God\u2019s economy. Accepting this, putting on Jesus Christ makes a major difference in the sense of worthiness of individuals. Once one feels worthy of care, becoming friendly and engaged follows, and loneliness lessens for most. Loneliness is a real problem; the solution for most is Christ and his church.<\/h4>\n
