THANKFULNESS

THANKFULNESS

Definition:

Thankfulness is an awareness and appreciation of a benefit received; grateful. It is often an expression of gratitude.

Brief Explanation:

Sometimes it is hard to even think of being thankful when you are depressed, lonely, hurt or afraid, as is often the condition of the counselee we are working with. Yet, thankfulness is a key to our contentment in this world, and truly, in the worst of situations, there are often things to be thankful for. Helping, with proper timing can be a blessing for the client, and a step towards the alleviation of their problems.

However, we should avoid thankfulness when it is not appropriate, for instance, avoid telling a loved one who has just lost their spouse to be grateful since they are in a better place or out of pain. Life stinks sometimes, but God is good all the time; this is a healthy perspective, one which hopefully in time a client may be able to gain.

The Word of God:

1 Thessalonians 5:18

“In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Psalm 95:2

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.”

Psalm 100:4

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.”
